Aim & Scope
International Journal of Social Inquiry (IJSI) started its publication life in 2008, is an international refereed academic e-journal published biannually in June and December. It aims to contribute to the international literature by publishing original articles in Turkish and English in different disciplines in the field of Social Sciences.
Journal publishes articles containing a substantial and original contribution and book reviews and case studies in fields of social sciences. Qualified articles, book presentations or reviews, and case studies on topics within the scope of social sciences can be published in the journal. IJSI publishes research articles, reviews and case studies in social, human and economic disciplines such as archeology, geography, literature, economics, philosophy, business management, political sciences, public administration, public finance, econometrics, psychology, history, art history, sociology, international relations, fine arts. Journal is also open to undergraduate and graduate students with quality work. Manuscripts must be submitted in English and Turkish. All articles in this journal undergo rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and double-blind reviewing by anonymous referees.
Writing Rules
AUTHOR GUIDE
International Journal of Social Inquiry (IJSI) is published twice a year (June and December). The journal includes research articles, reviews, case studies, book presentations and critics. These works should not have been published elsewhere or sent for publication previously. Articles can be written in Turkish and English. The initial evaluation of the manuscripts submitted to the journal is made by the editorial board in terms of its suitability for the journal writing standards. Eligible studies will be scanned with an internationally accepted academic plagiarism detector (excluding direct quotes, bibliographies, and footnotes cited by academic rules). Studies with more than 15% similarity will be sent back to the author/authors together with the scan result report. After this phase, the study will be sent to 2 referees. In the direction of the report from the referees, it will be decided whether the article will be published, corrected in the report frame, rejected, or sent to a third referee, and the author/authors will be notified about the situation as soon as possible. Revisions requested from the author/authors should be made within 1 month at the latest and sent to the editorial board via DergiPark online system.
Expression & Literary Style
Articles can be written in English or Turkish. Sentences should be written by grammar and orthographic rules.
For grammar and orthographic rules in English articles, Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary can be used. These Dictionaries are also available from the following web addresses: http://www.ldoceonline.com/ https://www.oxforddictionaries.com/ http://dictionary.cambridge.org/
For grammer and ortographic rules in Turkish articles, Turkish Language Association’s Güncel Türkçe Sözlük and/or Büyük Türkçe Sözlük and Türkçe Yazım ve İmla Kılavuzu should be used. These Dictionaries are also available from the following web address: http://www.tdk.gov.tr/
Titles
An appropriate article title should be chosen for the study topic.
The article should be numbered as (1, 2, 3...) starting from the 'introduction' and including the conclusion.
The numbering of titles should be as follows:

2. First Degree Headline
2.1 First Degree Subheadline
2.1.1 Second Degree Subheadline
Headings should be bold and left-aligned.
All titles in the text, including abstract, extended abstract, and keywords, should be shown in bold.
Author and Contact Information
The name(s) and surname(s) of the author/authors should be indicated after the article title (The first name(s) of the authors should be written in lowercase and the surnames in capital letters). Asterisked footnotes should be created after the author/authors’ name and surname and the institution/university information, e-mail address and ORCID to which the author/authors are affiliated should be shown. Authors who do not have an ORCID number should get their number from the https://orcid.org website.
In co-authored articles, one of the authors must be specified as the corresponding author. The manuscript and the other files must be uploaded to the system by the corresponding author. The corresponding author does not have to be the first author.
Abstract
An English abstract of 100-150 words is required for English articles, and the Turkish abstract is optional.
English and Turkish abstracts of 100-150 words are required for Turkish articles.
Keywords
After abstracts, the keywords consisting of 5 words should be given to correct the interest of the study.
Science Field Code (JEL CODE)
For articles that are directly/indirectly related to the field of economics, the author(s) should specify 3 jel codes under the keywords. Jel codes can be found at the following website: http://www.aeaweb.org/jel/guide/
Extended Abstract
An English extended summary (600-800 words) should be written only for Turkish articles.
The extended abstract is not an introductory one. It should include the purpose, method, findings, conclusions, and suggestions of the paper.
The extended abstract should be placed after the references.
Text
The manuscript text should not exceed 8000 words.
Except for special symbols, text, abstract, summary, equations, and references should be written in "Times New Roman".
Text in MS word format with 1.5 lines and 12 pt; abstract, extended abstract, equations, and bibliographies should be written in 10 point font size in single line spacing.
If an abbreviation is used in the text, these abbreviations should be shown in
parentheses when used for the first time. For example, International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Tables, Figures, and Graphics
All tables, figures, and graphics should be numbered with normal numbers. (Figure 1 / Table 1 / Figure 1, Figure 2 / Table 2 / Figure 2). The headings of tables, figures, and graphics should be placed on top of them. The headings of tables, figures, and graphics must be written in a single line and 10 pt. If the tables, figures, and graphics used in the article do not belong to the author himself, the source should be given at the bottom of the tables, figures, and graphics. Footnotes for tables and figures should be written in 10 point letter size with * (star) symbol.
Formulas and Equations
Formulas should be written left aligned and numbered. The equations should be numbered as (1), (2), (3) ... and should be written in 10 pt font size.
Statistics
Use the symbols and abbreviations determined by APA to express statistical values such as 'mean', 'standard deviation' etc. For example, SD for standard deviation, SE for standard error, M (or X̄) for arithmetic mean, β for beta, α for alpha. These expressions are not like other abbreviations and their meanings are not given in parentheses. So please don't use it like this: (SE = standard error). If these terms are used in general expressions in the sentence, use the term instead of the abbreviation. To express the statistical value, use symbols such as M = 8.51, n = 15, not (mean = 8.51).Statistical abbreviations such as ANCOVA, ANOVA, CFA, BIC, CFA, CI, NFI, RMSEA, SEM, SRMR, unlike the above symbols, must be explained where they are first used.
Use 'zero' and 'dot' for numbers below 1 if the statistical value can exceed 1: F(2, 15) = 0.43, t(20) = 0.52
Do not use 'zero' if the statistical value cannot exceed 1: p=.015

The APA Guidelines adopt the parenthetical method of '(Author Surname, Date)' or 'Author's Surname (Date)' for in-text citations.
Example: The main objective of the traditional budget is to control how much the executive body spends in accordance with the budget law (Altuğ, 2020).
Example: There are many studies in the literature that emphasize the strengths of the program budget system (Altuğ, 2020; Axelrod, 1995; Coşkun, 1997; Dicle, 1973; Edizdoğan & Çetinkaya, 2021).
If the author, who is the source of information, is to be emphasized, 'Surname (Date)' is usually used at the beginning of the sentence.
Example: Altuğ (2020) stated the program budget system has many advantages over the traditional budget.
―One author (Tezcan, 2014), (Gray, 2010a); if a quotation (Flint, 1988, p. 5)
―Two authors (Boex & Simatupang, 2008).
―Three and more authors (Bolivar et al., 2007).

Author(s) should follow the American Psychological Association's (APA) 7th Edition Publication Guidelines for references. See.

Article Submission
IJSI only accepts manuscripts submitted through the DergiPark online system for the evaluation process. During the submission of the manuscript, the copyright agreement and conflict of interest declaration form and author contribution statement, duly filled and signed by the authors, is requested to be uploaded to the online system. We kindly ask the corresponding author to present the mobile phone number in this forms so that IJSI can contact the authors when necessary. This personal information will not be used while publishing the article.

Ethical Principles and Publication Policy
International Journal of Social Inquiry (IJSI) is an international refereed journal published by the Bursa Uludağ University Social Sciences Institute. The journal is published in two issues, in June and December each year. Thus, it is aimed that the journal will reach a wide range of authors and readers. IJSI publishes articles on social, humanities, and economic disciplines and interdisciplinary scientific research, reviews and case reports about archeology, business management, economics, geography, literature, philosophy, public administration, public finance, psychology, art history, sociology, history, international relations, fine arts, etc.
In the journal, publications are made in accordance with these standards and rules, taking into account the Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive of The Council of Higher Education and the International Standards of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) for Editors and Authors (see https://publicationethics.org).
Ethical Responsibilities of the Editor(s)
• Editors have full responsibility and authority to accept or reject an article.
• Editors should not have a conflict of interest / conflict regarding articles they accept or reject.
• Only articles that will contribute to the field should be accepted.
• Support the release or retraction of the correction when errors are found.
• It should prevent plagiarism / fake data.
• Editors and the Editorial Board should deal with the scientific content and writing rules associated with the journal.
• Editors will take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of articles where research misconduct occurs.
Ethical Responsibilities of Referees
Referee evaluation is defined as obtaining advice from experts about articles submitted for publication to the journal.
• Referees' decisions must be objective and impartial.
• Referees should not have a conflict of interest / conflict with the research / author / funders of the research.
• Referees should indicate works that have been published but not yet cited in the article.
• Referees should keep reviewed articles confidential.
• Referees cannot communicate directly with authors; The article evaluation forms and the notes stated on the text are forwarded to the author (s) by the editors.
• Referees are required to fill in the "Referee Evaluation Form" for the articles they have evaluated. The referees are required to indicate in this form their decisions regarding whether the article they have evaluated can be published or not, and their reasons / suggestions for their decisions.
• At least two referees evaluate an article submitted for publication in IJSI.
• In IJSI, during the referee evaluation process, double-blind refereeing is applied. The referees do not see the names of the authors and the authors do not know the names of the referees.
• After the article sent to be published is subjected to referee evaluation, it is also examined by the scientific committee when deemed necessary. Comments and assessments from the referees and / or scientific committee are forwarded to the authors, and when necessary, the author may be asked to review and make corrections.
• IJSI does not pay referees at any stage for article evaluation.
Ethical Responsibilities of Authors
• Bibliography list must be complete.
• Plagiarism and fake data should not be included.
• The same research should not be attempted to be published in more than one journal and should comply with scientific research and publication ethics.
According to the Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive of The Council of Higher Education article 4, actions against scientific research and publication ethics are as follows:
a) Plagiarism: To present the ideas, methods, data, practices, writings, figures, or works of others as if they were their own, partially or entirely, without reference to their owners in accordance with scientific rules,
b) Forgery: To produce data that is not based on research, to edit or change the presented or published work based on unreal data, to report or publish them, to pretend that a research has been done.
c) Distortion: Falsifying the research records and the data obtained, showing the methods, devices, and materials not used in the research as being used, not considering the data that are not suitable for the research hypothesis, playing with the data, and / or results to conform to the relevant theory or assumptions, falsifying or shaping research results in line with their interests,
d) Republishing: To present more than one work containing the same results of research as separate works in academic promotions,
e) Slicing: To present the results of research as separate works in academic promotions by breaking down the results of the research in an inappropriate way and making many publications without reference to each other,
f) Unfair authorship: Including non-active contributors among the authors, not including those with active contributors among the authors, changing the author's order in an unjustified and inappropriate manner, removing the names of the active contributors from work during publication or in subsequent editions, to include his / her name among the authors,
Other types of ethical violations include:
a) Not specifying the supporting persons, institutions, or organizations and their contributions in the publications made as a result of research conducted with the support,
b) To use the thesis or studies that have not yet been submitted or accepted as a source without the permission of the owner,
c) Not complying with ethical rules in research on humans and animals, not respecting patients' rights in publications,
d) To act contrary to the provisions of the relevant legislation in biomedical research and other clinical trials related to humans,
e) Sharing the information contained in a work that has been assigned to review with others before it is published without the explicit permission of the owner of the work,
f) Misusing the resources, venues, facilities, and devices provided or allocated for scientific research,
g) To claim unfounded, unwarranted, and deliberate ethical violations,
h) To publish the data obtained without the express consent of the participants in a questionnaire and attitude research conducted within the scope of a scientific study or if the research will be conducted in an institution, also without the permission of the institution
i) To harm animal health and ecological balance in research and experiments,
j) Failing to obtain written permissions from authorized units in research and experiments before starting work.
k) Research and experiments in legislation or engage in activities contrary to the provisions on related research and experimentation of the international conventions that Turkey is a party.
l) Failing to comply with the obligation to inform and warn those concerned about possible harmful practices related to the scientific research conducted by researchers and authorities,
m) Not using the data and information obtained from other persons and institutions in scientific studies, to the extent and as permitted, not to respect the confidentiality of this information and to ensure its protection,
n) Making false or misleading statements regarding scientific research and publications in academic appointments and promotions.
• Authors must comply with copyright regulations for their intellectual and artistic works. Authors must obtain permission from the copyright holder when using previously published content, including images, tables, or any other content in print or electronic format. All legal, financial and criminal liability in this matter belongs to the authors.
• Authors are obliged to participate in the referee evaluation process.
• In articles with more than one author, it is expected that all authors have contributed significantly to the research. Author (s) should correctly cite the sources they use in their articles and prepare their articles in accordance with the "Authors Guide (Writing Rules and Reference Formats)" determined by the journal.
• All authors are obliged to ensure that errors are withdrawn or corrected.
• Articles should not be submitted to a journal other than IJSI for simultaneous publication. Translations of articles published elsewhere are not accepted for publication in IJSI. Authors should be aware that the copyright of the materials contained in IJSI belongs to IJSI.
• Supporting persons, institutions, or organizations and their contributions should be indicated in publications made as a result of research conducted with support.
• If the article is produced from the author's master's or doctoral thesis or a project, this should be stated in the article.
• IJSI does not charge author(s) for publishing at any stage.
• Author(s) must upload the signed "Copyright Agreement and Conflict of Interest Declaration" and "Author Contribution Statement" forms when submitting their manuscript to the journal. In addition, the approval document should be uploaded to the system as an additional file for studies that require Ethics Committee Permission.
Confidentiality Statement
All of the data (personal information such as names and last names of authors, email addresses, etc.) are sole to be used by the scholarly studies of the journal. This data is not used for other purposes or shared with third parties on any account.
Copyright and Licencing
IJSI does not charge or pay any royalties to the authors for its published articles. IJSI is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY-NC) International Licence.
Open Access Statement
IJSI is an open-access e-journal and adheres to the Budapest Open Access Initiative definition of open access (see https://www.budapestopenaccessinitiative.org). By "open access" we mean that articles in the IJSI are freely available on the public internet in full text. Thus, any user has the opportunity to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to articles for free and scan for indexing.
Eligible studies will be scanned with an internationally accepted academic plagiarism detector (excluding individual citations, bibliographies, and footnotes cited by academic rules). Studies with more than 15% similarity will be sent back to the author/authors together with the scan result report. The plagiarism detection is done by iThenticate software.
Archiving
Issues of IJSI up to 2018 are available in print at Bursa Uludağ University Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Central Library and various other libraries. The electronic version of the journal has been archived in DergiPark and indexes since 2008. If the journal terminates the publication for any reason, the studies published in the past can be accessed from these platforms.
Price Policy
The journal has an open access policy. No fee is charged during the submission, evaluation and publication process of the article.
